Doctorate?

I received word a few days ago that the paperwork for transferring the classes from the APB into the MAT has been sent over to the School of Graduate Studies.  Now I’m just waiting to be notified that the transfer has taken place.  Which will, hopefully, be soon because classes start on January 18.

Since I’m almost done with my masters degree, and sooner than I anticipated, I’ve been considering the idea of continuing my eduction.  In May I will officially have a BS in Math, a completed non-degree Education program, and an MAT in Math.  I am seriously considering adding to my degree arsenal.  I’m thinking a doctorate degree would do nicely.  Imagine, people calling me “Dr. Spoerke” instead of “Mrs. Spoerke”.  How cool would that be?

I have decided that, if I do go for a doctorate, I will not pursue it the way I did a masters.  I will take a reasonable amount of time.  One course per term while I’m working full-time (assuming that actually happens), and a couple courses over the summer while I’m not working.

Because I NEED a job, I’ll be focusing on getting a job in February and March.  Once I do that, then I’ll begin to do some research on doctorate programs offered at colleges and universities in the area.  Once I find something that I like, I’ll (probably) apply to begin in January 2013.

So, if all goes well, in August I will have a full-time job and a couple applications to doctorate programs out.  Then, if all continues to go well, I’ll begin teaching in September and be accepted some time in the following month.  And, if all is continuing to go well, I’ll begin a doctorate program in January 2013 (I’ll be 29) and aim to finish by the time I’m 35 (no later than summer of 2019, before I turn 36).  Essentially, that will be obtaining a doctorate in 6 years.  I think that’s a reasonable length of time.  I’d also like Skip and I to have a child or two somewhere in there, which would necessitate our moving to a bigger and better place.

I wonder if whole wheat flour will change the taste of cookies.  I’ll make some after I get the Christmas stuff taken down and put away.
