Avoiding Boston traffic at all costs

In 2009, the average Boston-area commuter lost 48 hours to congestion, a figure the researchers came up with by comparing the amount of time drivers spent getting to work with the time those same trips would have taken if they had been able to travel at the posted speed limits.

According to Boston.com

Avoiding Boston traffic is probably the most challenging part of doing anything in or around the city. I’ve been searching for the best routes to the Jamaica Plain VA since 2006. Just this past summer I think I found the best one from Abington. Given the time of day, however, it may very well be one of the worst. For those times I have 2 secondary routes that might help avoid the traffic and might not. It’s a gamble.

As I begin my journey with a new job near the South Shore Plaza in Braintree, I’m at a loss as to what routes would be the best from Sharon High School (where Jen is currently teaching). Here are a few that failed miserably at 7:15AM.

None of these routes were good at 7:15AM. In fact, it took me three times as long to get where I was headed (90 minutes). It’s time to play a little game.

Below you’ll see the Google Map with the addresses already entered for you. Click on “Edit This Route.” Change the route by clicking on the blue line and dragging it where you want it to go. Hopefully you can help me find an easy route that is likely to be fairly congestion free at 7:15AM. Maximum time it can take to get from Point A to Point B is 55 minutes.

Once you’ve chosen your route, share it with me by clicking the envelope icon on the Google Maps page. If I choose your route as my primary route I’ll donate $20 to a charity of your choice. If I choose your route as a secondary route I’ll donate $10 to a charity of your choice. Send your route to skip@jenandskip.com

Deadline is October 11, 2011. Send me as many routes as you want. I’ll share the winning routes right here after I decide.
